GFCO STATEMENT ON TESTING

For the purposes of GFCO's gluten-free certification program, GFCO only uses test kits validated through AACCI or AOAC for gluten testing during initial certification, auditing, and point-of-sale surveys, as well as for confirmation of customer complaints and initiation of recalls.  GFCO requires that manufacturers also use these test methods for ingredient and finished product testing.  No test methods other than those listed are acceptable for meeting your testing requirements for ingredients and finished products. If you are interested in using a kit that is not listed under VALIDATED METHODS, contact the kit manufacturer to determine if or when they expect to complete an AOAC or AACCI validation.

For surface swabbing as part of cleaning verification or validation, manufacturers may use one of the rapid methods on this list, or a generic protein swab. GFCO does not accept ATP swab results for gluten cleaning verification or validation.

Read your contract carefully for minimum testing requirements.  Compliance with testing is mandatory for certification. Quarterly reporting of test results to GFCO is required. Send your testing logs to testing@gluten.org at the end of each calendar quarter. Due dates are January 10, April 10, July 10, and October 10.
